|In the first month of their services, our CTVS team successfully operated four cases of cardiac surgery, out of which three cases were open heart surgery and one case of closed heart surgery.
One of the stand out patients in these four cases was the case of a 5 years old female child who was suffering from Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) which is a congenital heart disease in the form of communication between two main arteries coming out of the two ventricles of the heart. It causes mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood at the major arteries level and if not operated promptly after birth can cause a fatal condition called Eisenmenger Syndrome within few years.
This child was on the waiting list of an Afghan charity organization, which sends Afghan children with congenital heart disease for surgery to foreign countries. But due to their limited resources and overcrowding of patients they can only send a limited number of children for surgery each month to abroad.
|Her appointment for surgery was due in three years but unfortunately, due to the urgent condition of her heart disease she had to go undergo surgery within few months. She belonged to a middle class family and her parents could not afford her surgery by themselves in abroad.
She was brought to Ariana Hospital cardiothoracic vascular surgery department and she was admitted for surgery with more than 50% discount than the fees they would have paid outside the country for their child surgery.
She was operated on 12th of May, 2017 by Dr. Khaiber Sidiqi and Dr. Ali Ateel Daifoladi in Ariana hospital and her operation was successful. She was discharged on 15th of May 2017 three days post surgery in good medical condition.
On follow up visit, her Echocardiogram showed no residual shunt with good biventricular function and thanks to the efforts of Ariana hospital CTVS team she can now enjoy her childhood and a big burden is lifted of her family.
